Composite
The manufacturing of composite materials is a combination of plastic and wood pulp. Advances over the years have made the wood grain appearance more realistic and there are a broader selection of sizes and colors. Many manufactures sell a product that includes a thin PVC skin that surrounds each board, increasing the durability of the deck and protecting it from insects, water, and rot. In addition it is well-suited for harsh weather conditions found in mountain communities.
